Overview Of The Australian Shepherd Dog
The Australian Shepherd dogs are very well
recognized to be hard working dogs which were actually used in Spain
to control the herding animals and cattle in the farm or ranch.
Their physical appearance is excellent and resolute with upright
body structure with the average height being approximately between
18 and 23 inches. However the approximate adult size of the male
Australian Shepherds are around 20 to 23 inches to the withers and
they weigh 50 to 65 pounds. On the other hand female Australian
Shepherds weigh 40 to 55 pounds with the average size being 18 to 21
inches.
These Australian Shepherds are very much gallant and dauntless.
Their energy level is very high. They can do a lot of work with much
accuracy and with swiftness. As they possess some basic skills
therefore they can show some tricks and antics which they learn very
fast throughout training session. They are well equipped with a
number of excellent traits such as extremely intelligence and
guessing power. They can perform risky shows successfully. Their
alacrity attitude mingled with stamina provide impetus to them to
face the awkward situation very successfully without any
encumbrances. So far as the healthcare is concerned it is evident
that they can be affected by a number of diseases. The most common
disease is the hip dysplasia which can cause lameness and loose
joint of the legs. Hypothyroidism is another problem Australian
Shepherds suffer. There are other diseases like discoid lupus
erythematosus (an autoimmune disease), cleft palate with the
inclusion of von Willebrand's disease (a type of blood clotting),
and patent ductus arteriosis which enhances the disruption and
anomaly in the blood circulation. Therefore they should be given the
medical aids and vaccination. They can be checked up by experienced
vets occasionally to keep the track of the healthcare of their body
system.
So far as the grooming is concerned Australian Shepherds must be
kept in healthy place. Their body should be cleaned with a firm
bristled brush which will help the removal of the unwanted hair and
particles from the body. They are double coated. The coat is medium
coarse with moderate length. Proper brushing can help removing
plaques and tartar from the coat. They should be bathed with costly
conditioner and shampoo. Their teeth should be cleaned and brushed
at least twice a week otherwise there is higher possibility of the
loss of teeth and dental disease. If they are given proper
medication and nutritious food they can be in sound health and their
musculature will be well built.
